Afra Masud, a rising junior majoring in sociology and a Levermore Global Scholar, is the ninth consecutive Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» student to receive a yearlong Newman Civic Fellowship awarded to student leaders who are dedicated to making positive social change.
A minor in sociology provides a structured approach to studying issues related to identity, culture and justice and how they shape our world. You will learn how social movements emerge from the collective efforts of individuals, and you will study the role that social forces play in defining racial identities and gender roles.
Students in this program are also eligible to enter STEP, which allows you to earn a master’s degree and prepare for teacher certification with one additional year, saving you time and tuition costs.
At Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», we believe hands-on experience is key to setting our students up for future career success. You will be encouraged to conduct independent research projects on subjects that are meaningful to you and your career path.
